Bequest Gifts: All Shapes and Sizes
Creating a will is an essential part of securing your legacy and your family’s future. A gift by will, otherwise known as a bequest, can be any shape and any size. What matters is that your gift fits you and your unique family and financial circumstances. Over the years, bequests have provided UC Riverside with invaluable support in our mission to transform lives through knowledge discovery, communication, and application.
Any Shape
With a charitable bequest you can specify an amount of money or a certain percentage of your estate and leave it to your executor to make the arrangements. Or you can leave a specific piece of property, such as an art collection or a piece of real estate. If you prefer, you can specify that your gift to UC Riverside is made only after all of your other bequests are paid. Or, if you are uncertain, you can even make your bequest gifts contingent on certain events occurring (or not occurring).
Any Size
Sometimes people think bequest gifts have to be very large or that they have to be rich to make one. Nothing could be further from the truth. UC Riverside has received bequest gifts of all sizes. Even modest sized gifts – when alumni and friends come together – make a difference and support the next generation of students. What matters is that you pick the size that works for you and for your family.
If You Would Like to Remember UC Riverside Foundation in Your Will
Here is an example of bequest language which you can share with your attorney:
“I give to UC Riverside Foundation, PO Box 5068, Riverside, CA 92517-5068, a California nonprofit corporation, or its successor, Federal Tax Identification Number 23-7433570 [insert here the exact dollar amount or percentage] for its general purposes.”
